Mannose is a simple carbohydrate found in fruit and it is also produced by the human body, but in small quantities. It is absorbed in less than 30 minutes in the peripheral organs and then passes through the urinary system and is excreted. Mannose has been found to have a protective effect on the urinary tract against infections and chronic inflammation (urinary tract infection, cystitis) from coliforms, such as E. Coli. E. Coli is the leading cause of about 90% of urinary tract infections. Mannose does not kill coliform bacteria that cause urinary tract infections.
